| System | Recommended | Alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Windows | Microsoft Store | .exe installer |
| macOS | Homebrew | .dmg image |
Windows
Microsoft Store (recommended): one click, automatic updates, no security warnings.
.exe installer: download it from GitHub Releases. It’s called copanda-installer-<version>-windows-x86_64.exe.
The installer is signed with a self-issued certificate rather than a purchased one, so Windows and your browser may warn you. That’s expected:
- Chrome or Edge may block the download: choose Keep or Keep anyway.
- SmartScreen shows “Windows protected your PC”: click More info › Run anyway. It only happens once.
If you’d rather not see those warnings, use the Microsoft Store.
winget: not in the catalogue yet. Coming soon.
Note The Scoop bucket carries CopyPaste 2, not 3.
macOS
Homebrew (recommended): picks the build for your chip, Apple Silicon or Intel.
brew tap rgdevment/tap && brew install --cask copanda
Afterwards CoPanda updates itself from Settings › About, and brew upgrade --cask keeps working too.
.dmg image: download it from GitHub Releases. There’s one per chip:
copanda-installer-<version>-macos-aarch64.dmgfor Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3…)copanda-installer-<version>-macos-x86_64.dmgfor Intel
Not sure which one you have? Apple menu › About This Mac: a Chip line with Apple M1, M2… means Apple Silicon; a Processor line with Intel means Intel.
Open the .dmg and drag CoPanda into Applications. Open it from there, not from the mounted image.
Test versions
They arrive before anyone else’s and can break. If you’re up for it:
brew tap rgdevment/tap && brew install --cask copanda-beta
On Windows, test versions are marked Pre-release on GitHub Releases. The Microsoft Store only delivers stable versions.
Requirements
| System | Versions | Architecture |
|---|---|---|
| Windows | Windows 10 (1809 or later) and Windows 11 | x64 |
| macOS | Ventura 13.3 or later | Apple Silicon or Intel |
No administrator rights are needed to use it or to have it start at login.
Verifying a download
Each release carries a SHA256SUMS file with the checksum of every installer, and a GitHub attestation that ties each file to the build that produced it in the repository.
On Windows (PowerShell):
Get-FileHash .\copanda-installer-3.2.0-windows-x86_64.exe -Algorithm SHA256
On macOS:
shasum -a 256 copanda-installer-3.2.0-macos-aarch64.dmg
Compare the result with the matching line in SHA256SUMS.
Updates
- Microsoft Store: the Store handles it. CoPanda checks nothing on its own.
- Homebrew and direct downloads: go to Settings › About. CoPanda checks at most once a day, only when you open that section, or when you press Check now. If there’s a newer version, an Update button appears: it downloads, verifies the signature, installs, and CoPanda restarts itself.
Nothing is downloaded or installed unless you ask. Details in Privacy.
Uninstalling
Windows: Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find CoPanda and choose Uninstall.
macOS: quit CoPanda from the menu bar and drag the app from Applications to the Trash. If you installed it with Homebrew: brew uninstall --cask copanda.
Uninstalling does not delete your history: reinstall and you’ll find it as you left it. To leave completely, also delete the data folder:
- Windows:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\CopyPaste\ - macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/CopyPaste/
